At the design center you get budgets for each category — appliances, lighting, plumbing, and finishes. If you overspend the budget they just add it to the total. The key is knowing what is worth spending on.
Appliances — a dream stove that comes in multiple colors including Barbie pink. Sub-Zero refrigerator. Downdraft cooktop for islands. Double ovens with warming drawers. Coffee bars and espresso machines built into your cabinetry.
Lighting — do not limit yourself. Wall sconces for living rooms, studies, and hallways. Exterior Dark Sky compliant fixtures required near our military bases. Gold fixtures — not the brass of yesterday but true gold. Custom lighting elevates your home more than almost any other upgrade.
Plumbing — copper tubs if that is your vibe. Larger freestanding tubs that actually fit a real adult. Spa showers with multiple valves and rain heads. Drawer style vanities for more storage.
Bar areas — your own beer tap, wine storage, coffee bar, and espresso machine all in one custom built-in. Because it is the Texas Hill Country and we need our wine.
At the end of the design center visit everything gets added up — your foundation, your base price, and all your pretties. That total becomes your construction loan number.

FAQ
What happens at a custom home design center in Texas? You select all the finishes and features for your home — appliances, lighting, plumbing fixtures, cabinetry, flooring, countertops, and more. You receive budgets for each category and can upgrade within or beyond those budgets with the difference added to your construction total.
What are Dark Sky lighting fixtures and why are they required in the Texas Hill Country? Dark Sky compliant fixtures shine light downward rather than upward. They are required in many Texas Hill Country communities near military bases to reduce light pollution and protect night visibility for aircraft.
Is gold the right finish choice for a Texas Hill Country custom home? Gold finishes — true warm gold not the brass of previous decades — are very much on trend in 2026 for Texas Hill Country custom homes.
